An umbrella flew from the back of a motorcycle into a car that was driving behind.

The resident on a two-wheeler was carrying the large blue parasol on his pillion passenger's seat, but the force of air spread it opened in Bangkok, Thailand, on January 5.

Footage shows the giant dome being thrown off from the back of the rider into the driver behind.

It hit the windscreen before tumbling into the road, blocking motorists, while the motorcycle rider fell over from his vehicle, although not seriously hurt.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
