SOUNDBITE 1 (Indonesian): BILLIE SENTOSO, Indonesian engineer at the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway
"I'm interested because this is the first time in Indonesia and also in Southeast Asia. So, I want to learn the technologies they use to build this high-speed railway."
Spanning 142.3 km with a design speed of 350 km per hour, the high-speed rail is a flagship project under the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative (BRI).
Sentoso said that he has gained valuable knowledge from his Chinese colleagues.
SOUNDBITE 2 (Indonesian): BILLIE SENTOSO, Indonesian engineer at the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway
"Of course, like testing the rails for testing the rail pad, these are the technologies that I have never studied at school before, and here I get directly from them.
From what I see, the technology is advanced here because they bring it directly from China, so it is sophisticated for this high-speed railway.
At first, I was also a little confused about using the technology, but as long as they taught me, I felt quite happy to learn new things like the new technologies they applied.
I feel happy and proud to be working here, and moreover, working for the first high-speed railway project in Indonesia."
