SOUNDBITE (Portuguese): FILIPE NYUSI, Mozambican President
"Ladies and Gentlemen, a new threat to peace in Mozambique is terrorism, a phenomenon that has affected our country, specifically the Province of Cabo Delgado since October 2017. The brutality with which terrorists operate made it clear that this is not a religious conflict, but a phenomenon driven by factors such as money laundering, drug trafficking, waste of resources, among other types of crimes. Since the beginning of the terrorist attacks, we have committed our defense and security forces to combat terrorism, while looking for a better strategy to combat this global evil."
The Day of Peace and Reconciliation is marked in Mozambique on October 4 each year.
31 years ago, Mozambique's civil war ended on October 4 that year.
