Aerial video shows smoke getting thicker and starting to cover the sky in Padang City, West Sumatra, on Saturday morning, October 7, 2023.

This condition is due to forest and land fires that occurred in the provinces of South Sumatra and Jambi, as well as several other locations in Sumatra.

Based on the latest data on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 10:00 WIB, the Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU) in the area is in the medium category with fine particle pollution parameters (PM2.5) at 91 micrometers.

In fact, in the last few days, the air quality parameters for PM2.5 in this region have been above 100 micrometers.

Even though the air quality standard set by the World Health Organization (WHO) for parameters (PM2.5) is no more than 5 micrometers,

Currently, the Padang City Government is asking residents to reduce activities outside the home and use masks to avoid acute respiratory diseases caused by smoke haze.
