STORYLINE:

Ultra-orthodox Jews in Israel took part in the Hoshana Raba ritual at the end of the week-long Sukkot on Friday.

Hoshana Raba is the seventh day of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. This day is marked by a special synagogue service in which worshippers make seven circuits holding their "lulav" (palm branch) and "etrog" (citrus).

The Sukkot, or Feast of Tabernacles, celebrated from sunset of Sept. 29 to sunset of Oct. 6 this year, is a biblical week-long holiday that recollects the 40 years of travel in the desert after Exodus, the liberation of the people of Israel from slavery in Egypt.
