On October 9, 2023, at Sendai Station in Miyagi, Japan, emergency services swung into action as a suspected chemical incident unfolded on the Tohoku Shinkansen Hayabusa No. 52 train. The train, en route from Shin-Aomori to Tokyo, came to an abrupt halt at JR Sendai Station after a passenger urgently pressed the emergency call button. The reason behind this call was a 5-year-old boy who had come into contact with a substance resembling a chemical, resulting in burns. Witnesses on the platform reported seeing smoke emanating from the No. 7 car's door. Following the incident, six individuals reported injuries or feeling unwell, prompting the evacuation of passengers and the suspension of the journey. Authorities are currently conducting an investigation into the nature of the chemical substance.
