A drowning stray dog was rescued from a reservoir in rural Thailand.

The pooch slid down the water pit while playing and was later found by farm workers who helped save it in Nakhon Pathom province, Thailand on September 26.

Footage shows the brown canine on the edge of the pool as a good Samaritan tried to hook its neck with a rope on a pole but it swam away, confused and terrified.

It was eventually fished out of the water as its rescuers tried again despite the dog being aloof and trying to evade them.

Worker Sakda Kruewan said: 'We discovered the dog around 1:45 pm and went to help as soon as possible. The only usable equipment we could find right there was a long branch and a rope.'

Thailand, a largely Buddhist nation, believes that kindness towards animals should be encouraged, with temples sometimes being a safe refuge for stray cats, dogs, and even monkeys that don't have homes.
