This is the dramatic moment a raging flood surged through a town during a monsoon storm in the Philippines.

Footage shows the muddy torrent rushing across a channel and spilling onto nearby homes as worried villagers monitored the flood in Bansalan Town, Davao del Sur province, on October 10.

Resident Dianne Mercadal said the flood was triggered by heavy rains causing the Bansalan River nearby to overflow.

Philippine weather agency PAGASA said the trough of a low-pressure area was bringing scattered rain and thunderstorms across the Mindanao region where the town is located.

The Philippines and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.
