Strangford Lough, County Down, Northern Ireland. 11 October 2023

Thousands of Light Bellied Brent Geese journey nearly 3000 miles from Arctic Canada to winter on Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland during September and October every year.

Up to 90% of the world’s Light Bellied Brent Geese come to Strangford Lough in Autumn. The flight takes about a week. The geese feed on the abundant eel grass, exposed at low tide, staying until around mid October when many will disperse around Ireland.
