School bus and overloaded truck collide, leaving one dead in China
An overloaded truck collided with a school bus, killing 1 and injuring 2 in southern China.
Dashcam video filmed in the city of Lianjiang in Guangdong Province on October 9 shows an overloaded truck bulldozing a school bus causing it to crash into a tree, then drift uncontrollably across the road to finally smash into a utility pole.
After the bus stopped, the children were evacuated immediately.
The injured were immediately assisted and transported to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention.
The school bus driver, a teacher accompanying the children, and a toddler, totalling 3 individuals, were severely injured. Tragically, despite the best efforts of the medical staff, the school bus driver succumbed to his injuries.
The toddler and the teacher sustained only minor injuries and are now recovering.
According to reports, as the school bus was making a left turn onto the main road, it failed to yield to oncoming traffic. The truck was overloaded and not adhering to safety protocols and was involved in the calamity.
The truck driver, identified as Xie, has been cleared of any suspicions of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He is currently under police custody and undergoing further investigations.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
