Visitors at Beijing Zoo's Panda Pavilion were in for a delightful surprise when Meng Da, the 10-year-old charismatic giant panda mimicked its owner to wipe face with a towel on October 1.

In a scene that melted the hearts of many, the adorable Meng Da was seen picking up a towel that was drying on a rock. But rather than ignoring it, this cheeky panda did something nobody expected. He started to wipe his face with it, just like a human would, drawing gasps and excited murmurs from the crowds.

Onlookers were left stunned as Meng Da first grabbed the towel with his mouth, then proceeded to rub it all over - from his head to his face, down to his belly.

A zoo staff member explained that with the weather getting colder, they have been using towels to dry the pandas after they play in the water, to ensure they don’t catch a cold. The towel was left out to dry by a zookeeper but Meng Da found it and mimicked the very way keepers often wipe his face.

Meng Da was born in August 2013 at the Chengdu Giant Panda Research Base in Sichuan. Now over 10 years old, he's been described by the zoo's information board as a "typical sunny big boy".
