Excited shoppers rushed into a book fair venue on the first day of its opening in the Thai capital Bangkok.

Footage shows hundreds of people queued outside the Book Expo Thailand 2023 hall entrance before sprinting forward when they were finally allowed to enter the Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre on October 12.

Because of the massive turnout, some of the attendees had to wait for their turn as people were allowed to get in in batches to accommodate everyone and avoid overcrowding.

The guests enjoyed a total of 355 booths divided into five categories such as general books, children's books and instructional media, vintage books, novels and literature, and Book Wonderland, which held comics, graphic novels, and those in the coming-of-age genres.

Event-goer Krittika Eabiam said: 'It was like being in a competition. There were so many people who were on the hunt for the best books.'

The book expo would run from October 12 to 23 and is open to visitors from 11 am to 10 pm every Monday to Thursday and 10 am to 11 pm every Friday to Sunday.
