A huge fire ripped through stalls at a market in Bangkok, Thailand, on Wednesday afternoon.

The blaze erupted in the storage area of the Sala Nam Ron market across the Thonburi Railway Station on October 11.

Vendors said they fled when they saw smoke wafting out of the building, which was composed of wood, metal shutters, and zinc roofing, before the flames grew.

Flammable material such as paper and fuel tanks inside had caused the fire to spread rapidly, they said.

Police Captain Nattakrit Makjing of the Thonburi Railway Police Station said officers received a report at 12:52 pm.

Local firefighters arrived at the scene and extinguished the blaze in 50 minutes with no injuries or casualties reported. They said eight blocks of the storage facility had been razed.

Thouchanop Boonsom, the market's chief security officer, said the cause of the fire is believed to be a short circuit. Security guards tried to put out the fire, but it had intensified too quickly.

Police were investigating the exact cause of the incident.
