Terrifying moment Chinese woman fell through 2.8-metre hole at delivery pick-up station
A woman faced potential paralysis after falling through a 2.8-metre hole at a delivery pick-up station in northern China.
The terrifying CCTV footage was filmed in the city of Taiyuan in Shanxi Province on August 25.
The delivery pick-up shop had its space split over two levels; the ground floor was dedicated to sales, and the upper level was set aside for customers to pick up their packages.
Customers, seemingly unaided, are expected to move from the ground floor to collect their parcels from the upper level.
The pit, as explained by the store owner, was a whopping 2.8 metres deep and is typically used for the transfer of goods between the two levels. It's usually kept closed but was unfortunately left open after a recent delivery.
The distraught husband, Mr Zhang, detailed the devastating aftermath. His wife's injuries are severe, and there's an alarming possibility of her suffering from high-level paralysis.
Since the incident a month ago, medical expenses have already skyrocketed past 120,000 yuan (£13,500). Future projections are equally grim, with monthly medical expenses estimated to be over 50,000 yuan (£5,600).
The owner of the shop, however, has expressed an inability to cover these soaring medical costs. As the bills pile up, both parties are in ongoing discussions, negotiating a possible compensation agreement.
