Heroic nurse saves collapsed elderly Chinese man on rain-soaked street
A nurse saved a collapsed elderly man on a rain-soaked street in southern China.
Heroic video filmed in the city of Nanning in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on October 10 shows the Deputy Head Nurse of the Anesthesia Department from Nanning's Ninth People's Hospital, He Meijie rescuing an elderly man laying on the ground.
According to reports, the pensioner suddenly collapsed on the road. Several concerned residents immediately surrounded him, and a distraught elderly woman, believed to be his wife, wept by his side.
First, He Meijie meticulously assessed the elderly man's vital signs, checking his carotid pulse. With great concern, she observed that the man wasn't breathing on his own and his face displayed a worrisome cyanotic hue - a sign of oxygen deprivation. Through the elderly man's companion, she learned of his existing health conditions, which included hypertension, heart disease, and a history of cerebral infarction, making his sudden fall all the more alarming.
Despite the slippery, rain-soaked ground, He bravely knelt down. Using tissues, she cleared the elderly man's airway of mucus, ensuring it remained unobstructed. With utmost professionalism, she began performing CPR, alternating between chest compressions and rescue breaths, her every move fluid and precise.
Pressing down repeatedly and delivering breath after breath, sweat beads formed on her forehead. All the while, she kept in touch with the emergency centre via speakerphone, her resolve unyielding. Moved by her dedication, bystanders stepped in to assist, and together, they managed to restore the elderly man's vital signs.
Soon after, the wail of sirens announced the arrival of an ambulance. The medical team swiftly loaded the man onto a stretcher. He Meijie, having done all she could, watched as the ambulance sped away, only then allowing herself a moment to catch her breath.
By this time, her pristine white trousers bore the stains of the wet and muddy street, and her hair was drenched from the rain. Undeterred by her dishevelled appearance, the dedicated nurse, with mud splatters and all, returned to her duty at the hospital.
