A pack of stray dogs glowed radioactive green under a ship's light.

Footage shows the pooches paddling in the water, around a mile from the shore, in Chumphon province, southern Thailand, in the early hours of October 11.

Their figures were glowing an eerie fluorescent green like bars of nuclear material. However, it was actually caused by a strong green light from the vessel's beam, which is used to attract squid.

A fisherman, who captured the phosphorescent pooches while he was trawling in the middle of the night, said: 'I think the dogs usually live along the beach, near the sea. They seemed to be afraid of people and did not want to be touched.

'While I was drying some squid, I saw them swimming towards the stern of the boat. I wanted to see if I could help them, but when I tried, they swam away. So I pulled up anchor to try to help, but by the time I had finished, they were nowhere to be seen.'

The local said the dogs had made it back to shore safely, but added he was unsure why they were so far out at sea at the Thung Wua Laen Beach.
