A magnitude 5 earthquake shook homes near Taal Volcano in the Philippines on Friday morning.

CCTV footage shows the tremor rattling a residence as terrified locals ran onto streets outside in the neighbourhood in Taal town, Batangas province, on October 13.

State seismological agency PHIVOLCS said the quake struck 15 kilometres southwest of Calaca City in Batangas province at 8:24 am local time. It was recorded at a depth of six kilometres and was also felt in the capital Manila.

Disaster officials said there were no casualties or damage reported so far, but a local high school in Mabini town had suspended classes as a precaution.

PHIVOLCS said aftershocks and damage were expected.

The Philippines is an archipelago of more than 7,000 islands inside the Pacific 'Ring of Fire' where the majority of Earth's volcano eruptions and earthquakes happen.
