STORYLINE:
In downtown Baghdad, traditional handicrafts thrive in markets, reflecting the rich heritage of the Iraqi people and their cultural diversity.
In markets on both banks of the Tigris River that bisects the city, craftsmen of different ages work in dozens of shops with traditional hand tools passed down from generation to generation.
Products are displayed in front of their shops, including charcoal grills, fish grill baskets, cooking utensils, agricultural tools, iron chains, and other things.
These traditional products once attracted many Iraqis and foreigners to visit the market.
However, many craftsmen expressed their concern about the rapid technological development sweeping Iraq and the entire world, which threatens the traditional skills among the new generation.
On the other hand, some insist that such a challenge could be an opportunity to develop new strategies to promote their handmade products, and increase their profits with the aim of attracting a new generation of artisans.
