The rain that has not fallen since the end of August 2023, due to the phenomenon of El Nino that hit Indonesia, began to have an impact on the dry irrigation of rice fields in the community.

One of them is in Toboh River Gadang, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra, on Friday, October 13, 2023. which is currently completely dry.

This drought impacts hundreds of hectares of rice fields belonging to the community, which relies on its water sources for irrigation.

Although previously improvements had been made in the damaged upstream part of the irrigation due to natural disasters, water discharge in small rivers makes water not flow.

This drought will have a long-term impact not only on rice production but also on the delay in planting periods. Because according to the calendar, this October is the best time to start the rice planting period.
