After a marathon session of almost 17 hours, the Chamber of Deputies turned the reform of the Rental Law into law with the changes in favor of tenants included by the Senate and promoted by the ruling party.

With these changes, contracts between owners and tenants will be maintained for three years and will be updated semiannually, instead of annually as established by the current rule.

Formula to update rents: rental prices will be updated based on the "Own House" coefficient used by the Ministry of Territorial Development and Habitat. This index will be "made up of the smallest variation that arises from comparing the average of 0.9 of the variation of the Salary Variation Coefficient published by the INDEC, and the variation of the Reference Stabilization Coefficient published by the Central Bank of the Argentine Republic ".

In addition, the approved law clarifies that the price of the contracts must be established in national currency. Nor can the advertising of rental properties be expressed in any currency other than pesos.

The text sent by the Senate also incorporated a last paragraph on article 9, in which it determined that "income from the rental of up to two properties will be exempt from paying the monotax."
