Nelson Mandela's grandson Mandla pledged support to Palestine as thousands marched through Cape Town in solidarity with the people of Gaza.

The march through the city's streets to the parliament of South Africa was led by clerics and members of civil society groups which included Nelson Mandela’s grandson Mandla Mandela, who also serves as a member of parliament.

Mandla, in keeping with Nelson Mandela’s legacy pledged continued support for the Palestinian cause. He also called for the South African government to ban the Israeli national airline El Al from flying to South Africa.

Cape Town, South Africa - 13 October 2023: Thousands of people marched through the streets of Cape Town to South Africa’s parliament to pledge their support for the Palestinians after Israel’s continued bombing of the Gaza Strip. The bombing of the Gaza Strip is in retaliation for Hamas militants having breached Israel’s borders and killing Israeli’s and taking civilians hostage. Israel has imposed a land, sea and air blockade of Gaza since 2007.
