On Thursday, October 12, 2023, in Lubuk Alung District, Padang Pariaman Regency, West Sumatra, an aerial video showed directly the area where the geological site was found, which was suspected to be columnar joints with basaltic andesite rock types.

The discovery of this columnar joint geological site is very rare because, generally, these sites are found under the earth.

Meanwhile, the columnar joint found in Padang Pariaman Regency is at a height of more than 100 meters above sea level (masl).

It is estimated that this geological site, which is estimated to be between 40 and 60 million years old, was uplifted due to Sumatran fault activity in the West Sumatra region.

Currently, all C excavation activities at this location have been temporarily stopped by the government. This is intended to make it easier for researchers to carry out data identification processes and others.
