STORYLINE:

SOUNDBITE 1 (English): ZAMAN, Student from Bangladesh
"My name is Zaman. I first stepped in China in 2014. I am doing my master's (degree) in Nanjing Medical University under (the guidance of) Professor Fan Zhining from Jiangsu Province Hospital (The First Affiliated Hospital with Nanjing Medical University).
I came to China. I found out that the studies, the materials and the equipment are no different from any Western countries. So, that's why I felt like, this is a perfect place to do my study.
In my country, endoscopy is just a new thing. A lot of patients don't know about endoscopy. A lot of patients don't know about early cancers and how to treat early cancers. We have very limited amount of equipment and doctors in our country doing endoscopy.
I just want to study from here and take some of the good things from China back to my country so that I can treat the people of my country as well."

SOUNDBITE 2 (Chinese): FAN ZHINING, Director of Institute of Digestive Endoscopy of Nanjing Medical University
"Zaman is an outstanding student. He works and studies very hard. Apart from clinical work, he also does research work and participates in a variety of experiments. I'm willing to teach him all I have mastered as long as he keeps up his hard work."

SOUNDBITE 3 (English): ZAMAN, Student from Bangladesh
"Actually, studying medicine, to be honest, is difficult. It's not an easy process, but you have to have the thing in your heart; you should never give up."

Since 2014, Jiangsu Province Hospital has been training medical workers from BRI partner countries on digestive endoscopy.

SOUNDBITE 4 (Chinese): FAN ZHINING, Director of Institute of Digestive Endoscopy of Nanjing Medical University
"China has brought techniques in digestive endoscopy to other parts of the world. Over the years, we have trained many doctors for BRI partner countries. It's our mission to keep improving our professional competence so that Chinese techniques and brands will have a bigger influence on the world stage."

SOUNDBITE 5 (English): ZAMAN, Student from Bangladesh
"I think the Belt and Road Initiative is very good for small countries like us, like Bangladesh. We need the help of big countries like China, in case of development not only in medicine but everything."
