A friendly elephant poked its trunk over a university garden wall to greet a driver.

Footage shows the jumbo's chin on the ledge of the perimeter wall while waving his trunk at the man in Radajhat University in Surin province, Thailand, on September 24.

The car owner said he was parking his vehicle when he spotted the light-hearted animal, so he went closer to say hello to the friendly beast.

As of 2023, there are an estimated 3,084-3,500 wild elephants in Thailand and a similar number in captivity, like the jumbo in the video.

The population has been increasing in recent years, but it is still a fraction of the estimated 300,000 wild elephants that lived in Thailand at the beginning of the 20th century.
