Chinese man sets off spectacular rice-spike fireworks in tribute to 'Father of Hybrid Rice'
A man named He Qingguang set off spectacular rice-spike fireworks on World Food Day in tribute to the "Father of Hybrid Rice", Yuan Longping, in southern China.
The impressive video was filmed in the city of Liuyang in Hunan Province on October 16.
As the first spark was ignited, a spectacular display of golden-yellow and vibrant green fireworks soared into the sky, enveloping the vast expanse of the farmland. The brilliant spectacle was reminiscent of the luscious rice spikes, bending gracefully under the weight of their bountiful harvest.
He Qingguang spoke about the intricacies of crafting the display, emphasizing the significance of the hues. "Mimicking the stages of the rice's growth through fireworks required precision in colours," he explained. Achieving the exact shade demanded diligent efforts and meticulous trials. But challenges were not confined to colour alone. From conceptual design to actual production, numerous obstacles were encountered and eventually surmounted.
According to reports, Yuan Longping's super hybrid rice set a new seasonal record, yielding an astonishing 1.88 kilograms per square metre on October 14.
The video was provided by local media with permission.
