“California has long led the nation in innovative disaster preparedness efforts. During this year's Great ShakeOut, we want to encourage all Californians to take steps to keep themselves and their families safe,” said Cal OES Director Nancy Ward.

This comes days before the Great Shake Out in California, which will take place on Thursday morning, October 19. Earthquake drills will be held throughout the state that day.

This seven-stop tour is part of an effort to prepare California residents in the event of an emergency.

“The first thing you need to do is create an emergency kit,” said José Lara of Cal OES. These emergency kits should include food, water, medications, and any important paperwork.
