A pensioner was found dead in a pay-by-the-hour motel after drinking coffee Viagra for a romp with an escort - who allegedly fled the scene when he keeled over.

Sompong, 69, had booked a two-hour stay at his regular 'short time' love hotel in Phatthalung province at around 10:50 am on October 14.

Before entering the room with the prostitute, police said he had taken a cup of 'performance enhancing' coffee, but the drink had an unwanted side effect.

Instead of boosting Sompong's libido, the coffee instead sent his body 'into shock', and he was found lifeless in the room later that afternoon.

Police Colonel Thanasit Jongwang, superintendent of the Mueang Phatthalung Police Station, said officers received a report at around 2 pm, and went to investigate the scene with forensic investigators.

He said: 'The deceased is estimated to have been dead for around three hours before the body was found. There were no indications of foul play or evidence of sexual activity.

'The victim had taken a full packet of a coffee aphrodisiac to boost his sexual performance with the woman. We believe this is what caused his body to go into shock. She did not stay with him, and may have left when she saw that he had died.'

Police said they also found a black Honda motorcycle Sompong had used to travel to the motel. Under the leather seat were four coffee packets - one of which had already been opened.

Motel staff said Sompong had been a regular patron, who would often visit them up to four times a month with different prostitutes.

On the day of his death, he was said to have booked a room for two hours. Employees said a 'good-looking' woman aged around 55 years old later entered his room, only to leave around 20 minutes later without him.

Police said they were now tracking down the woman's whereabouts to question to investigate why she had not reported Sompong's death.

Officials believe Sompong died from the side effects of the coffee when it 'overworked his blood vessels'.

They added the woman may have seen his corpse and fled, fearing she might be arrested. They said investigations were ongoing.

Pounding headaches that stay for days, dehydration, increased heart rate, blurred vision and pain from the swelling in the penis are just some of the unwanted side-effects of sexual performance drugs.

In November last year, health chiefs at Thailand's Food and Drug Administration banned a 'super erection' coffee amid claims it could cause blindness.

The product used by the dead man was from a different manufacturer.
