Tiny Australasian Grebes (Tachybaptus novaehollandiae ) are small waterbirds that feed mainly on small freshwater fish, insects, crustaceans and water snails. This Grebe pair built their floating nest in a quiet corner of Herdsman Lake, west of the Perth CBD. The male worked hard, pulling up pieces of waterweed and large algae and then swimming through floating Duckweed with them to the nest where his mate waited. Both birds cooperated to incorporate the new material into their nest. After a while the female stood up and rearranged the nest and her three eggs before settling on them again.
