Video shows fly squished in a UK supermarket dessert
Photographs show a fly squished in a Morrisons dessert that a man bought for his girlfriend.
Security officer Andrew Longmore picked up the cream profiterole sundae for his girlfriend on his way home from work.
But surprise turned to shock when 23-year-old Katie Connolly spotted a big black fly trapped between the cream and the side of the clear tub.
Ms Connolly posted the grim picture online and received a flood of comments from others who say they'd had similar issues at the Morrisons store in Northfleet, Kent.
She said an ex-employee told her she had found a fly in the jam and claimed that staff never washed their aprons.
Describing the incident from earlier this week (Monday October 18), Mr Longmore said: "You can see how it hasn’t been opened and the stuff has just been poured over it."
"I took it back and showed it to the woman behind the customer service desk and she looked absolutely shocked."
"But she just told me to go to the back swap it for two more and let her know as I leave."
"I know it’s not their fault individually, they’re part of a team, but a sorry would’ve been nice."
"It’s just hygiene. If I wanted to buy a fly I would’ve just bought a bin bag."
"An apology would be nice but mainly I want to make sure their food is healthy for others."
"No one knows what’s going on behind closed doors and this isn’t something you expect to happen to you but now it has, it needs something done about it."
Morrisons has apologised.
A spokesman for the supermarket said: "This is an isolated incident and we are in touch with the customer to apologise that this item did not meet our usual high standards."
He added: "All of our fresh Market Street counters have measures in place to prevent flies coming into contact with our food but as a precaution we are carrying out a full review of our Gravesend store."
