A junction 'looked like a nightclub' as faulty street lights blinked continuously along a road in Thailand.

Footage shows the malfunctioning lamps and a traffic light flashing like strobes near the Wat Makham Diao temple in Rayong province on October 14.

Residents have voiced their concern saying the lights posed a hazard to motorists at night.

Winai Klangmueang, 34, a deliveryman who often used the route, said the lights have been flickering for two years and have previously caused accidents on the path.

A local, Rueang Polyiam, 53, said he was also concerned and called on authorities to repair the fixtures.

Thailand has one of the world's worst road safety records. Ministers have set the goal of reducing fatalities from 32.7 deaths per 100,000 people to 12 per 100,000 people by the year 2027.

However, a lack of road safety education in schools along with notoriously easy driving tests, police failures to enforce road laws, and chronic under-investment in infrastructure, all appear to hamper the efforts.
