This is the heartwarming moment kind locals saved three hapless stray dogs that were stuck at the bottom of a reservoir in Thailand.

The farm workers were collecting fruits from a durian orchard when they noticed the canine trio stranded in the deep, man-made irrigation pond in Phuket on October 17.

The pooches were soaking in the green water and had been trying to climb up on their own. However, they kept sliding down the slippery rubber cover lining the slopes of the reservoir.

The workers took pity on the animals and jumped into the pool, bringing a large plastic sheet with a rope to use as a makeshift winch.

Footage shows the rescuers bundling up the reluctant but docile dogs in the sheet to drag them up to the edge of the reservoir. The strays were seen running off into the wilderness after being released.

Ekkachai, one of the workers, said: 'The dogs were lucky that the water wasn't too deep. They kept growling at us at first, but later calmed down. We had to pull them up one at a time because they kept squirming. It was difficult work, but I'm relieved we were able to rescue them.'

Thailand, a largely Buddhist nation, believes that kindness towards animals should be encouraged, with temples sometimes being a safe refuge for stray cats, dogs, and even monkeys that don't have homes.
