On October 17, 2023, a distressing incident unfolded between Sentolo Station and Wates Station in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, as captured in a video by @yoyo_yohanesandhika. The video depicts a train derailment, with harrowing screams from onlookers as they witnessed the unfolding chaos. Matters escalated when an oncoming train on an adjacent rail collided with some of the derailed carriages, intensifying the panic among those nearby. This tragic event was later attributed to issues with the railway sleepers, which had suffered erosion. The presence of gravel on the rail sleepers caused a carriage to tilt, ultimately leading to the derailment. As a result of the Argo Semeru and Argo Wilis train accident, 31 individuals sustained injuries, and they were promptly evacuated to Queen Latifa Hospital in Kulon Progo. Meanwhile, other passengers were transported using airport trains.
