A 9-year-old explained how she was terrified when the first missiles struck her neighbourhood in Al Sababha, Gaza.

Nisreen Mohammed Ahmed Al Attar spoke to a journalist on October 18 about how she was sent home from school as missiles struck the area.

"Before the war, we were happy and living well. We were happy, we were studying at school and happy. We used to write on the blackboard and answer the teacher's questions.

"We were happy, but then on the first day of the war. Before we heard the missile, we went to school, and suddenly we heard the missiles.

"Everyone at school went back home because we were frightened. We arrived home and the war started. We were shaking in fear. we stayed in bed then we went to school and at school the situation wasn't good.

"There is no water, all of the bathrooms are dirty. No one was able to go to the bathroom. And the situation is not good. It's freezing. It's very cold. and no one can bring us clothes and stuff. They only use tuk-tuks and cars, they can't get clothes and stuff they can't.

"All people, some of them came in the afternoon, but not all of them could come. Some were trying to sell some stuff in cars but may god mercy them. They are martyrs now. They died."

Nisreen then spoke about her reaction to the missiles flying overhead.

"I hear the missile sound, I’m terrified. And my dad keeps saying: 'Don’t be afraid don't be afraid.'

"I tell him: 'What dad? I’m terrified.'

"They bombarded a red tour here near a mosque. And they bombarded behind us. And we are in the Sababha neighbourhood. War and behind us. Everywhere they are attacking. And in Al Sababha, you see heavy missiles.

"Allah is my suffice, and the best deputy."

The Israeli air strikes have resulted in the deaths of hundreds of children in Gaza, the total blockade poses further risks.
