Firefighters rescued an elderly man trapped in a deep sewer in southern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Liuzhou in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on October 17.

Rescue workers had assessed the situation, discovering an 84-year-old man lying roughly 13 metres from the mouth of a pipe within a 3.5-metre deep well. With a diameter of about 0.4 metres, the tight space meant that they couldn't reach him directly. While the elderly man was responsive, he was immobilised and evidently in a fragile state.

Unable to access him through the sewer, firefighters swiftly coordinated with a nearby construction unit, summoning an excavator to the scene for an emergency rescue operation.

Upon further inquiries with the family, it was revealed that the elderly man suffered from Alzheimer's disease. Tragically, he had been missing for three days since October 14.

Despite the family's desperate pleas and reports to the police, the elderly man remained missing until they received the fateful call from the authorities.

The elderly man was rescued and his vital signs were stable. He was promptly transported to a hospital for further treatment.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
