Electrical short circuit triggers local house fire in Indonesia
A fire burned down a house owned by a local resident in Indonesia. An electrical short circuit in the attic is suspected to have triggered the fire.
Footage filmed in the city of Bukittinggi, West Sumatra on Thursday (October 19), shows flames on the right roof of the house.
The fire quickly spread to the roof above the room.
Neighbors arrived to help evacuate the victim's belongings and furniture but had difficulty finding a water source to extinguish the fire.
Witnesses saw the fire start with a spark in the attic.
Eight fire engines arrived to help extinguish the fire, which was brought under control around 30 minutes later.
"The fire has been successfully contained and is now cooling down at the spot where it is suspected to still be burning. It is a two-room house," said Efriadi, head of the Bukittinggi Fire and Rescue Department.
There were no casualties, but the damage is estimated at roughly $16,000.
The exact cause of the fire is still under police investigation.
