Repatriated bodies of Thais killed in Israel arrive at Bangkok airport
The repatriated bodies of eight Thais killed in Israel arrived back in Bangkok this morning.
The Southeast Asian farm workers were caught in crosshairs of the Hamas assault on Israel when the conflict erupted on Saturday, October 7.
Their remains arrived at the Suvarnabhumi International Airport at 8.50am on Friday morning, October 20, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Thailand said.
At least 30 Thai nationals have so far been killed in the conflict. A further 22 bodies will be repatriated in the coming days.
Officials said that 16 Thais have been injured and a further 17 are being held hostage by Hamas forces. The country had some 30,000 overseas workers in Israel.
The religious and territorial conflict, which dates back to the 1940S, between Israel and Palestine flared up again earlier this month when Gaza's ruling party attacked Israel, killing civilians.
Israel has hit back with a no-nonsense assault on the coastal enclave and a crackdown on Palestinians living in occupied territories.
