STORYLINE:Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi said on Thursday that the kingdom's priority is to immediately stop the Israel-Hamas conflict in Gaza while delivering humanitarian aid.
The minister made the remarks during a meeting with his visiting German counterpart Annalena Baerbock, the state-run Petra News Agency reported.
The two sides stressed the need to intensify efforts to launch an immediate and effective international action to de-escalate and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip.
Safadi urged to protect civilians on both sides in line with shared values and international law, stressing nothing justifies depriving the innocent people in Gaza of water, electricity, and medication.
He said that the conflict will lead to serious, painful, and long-lasting consequences in the coming periods, as being treated with violence does not justify using violence, and killing does not justify killing.
SOUNDBITE 1 (Arabic): AYMAN SAFADI, Jordanian Foreign Minister
"Violence and war have never been anything but a path to more violence, war, despair, and misery. Stopping this war is a priority, not only to protect the innocent people who suffer the scourge of this war, but also to prevent the future from being full of these tragedies, full of death and pain."
Baerbock announced Germany's decision to increase the humanitarian aid by 50 million euros for the people of Gaza, according to the report.
SOUNDBITE 2 (German): ANNALENA BAERBOCK, German Foreign Minister
"The German government decided to increase humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza and increase it by 50 million euros. This money is used to support international organizations such as the World Food Program, UNICEF, and UNRWA."
