STORYLINE:

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has launched the sales of its new energy vehicles in Hungary.

This marks a notable milestone for the company as it extends its customer base to the first country in the Central and Eastern European region.

SOUNDBITE 1 (Chinese): PENG YINGYING, Director of marketing and public relations at BYD Europe
"We are entering the Hungarian market, and we are very excited. Although this market may not be the largest in terms of overall size, we see the potential in the market, and local consumers are eager for us to bring the latest technology and products to their area. We are also partnering with the best local distributors to provide consumers with a better experience, more advanced products, and the highest quality service."

SOUNDBITE 2 (English): ZSOLT CSIKOS, Hungarian car journalist
"All of them are way, way above expectations.
When I see the prices, I say it is very difficult to make any car better than that, at that price, with that range, with that rigidity, solidity and that usability."

Csikos said the influx of high-quality Chinese cars into the European market leads to some European businesses facing increased competition but in the long run, such change can benefit the European economy.

Since entering the European passenger car market in 2022, BYD has introduced its vehicles to 18 European countries. And it aims to establish a network of more dealers within two years to cater to the growing demand in Hungary.
