From Friday to Sunday, the night sky across the Sydney Harbor would be lit up by a special laser show, as the Opera House marks its 50th anniversary after being opened to the public on Oct. 20, 1973.

As a part of the landmark's Birthday Festival, the laser show named "ICON" combines lighting technology with a soundscape composed by Australian artist Robin Fox, who was inspired by drawings of the Opera House from the archives and created this audio-visual art experience.

The audience can get to know the delicately-balanced assemblage of white shells from the sketches and also imagine the future of the Opera House while being immersed in the techno beats.

After the construction project commenced in 1959, it took 14 years and 10,000 workers to turn the design of Danish architect Jorn Utzon into a reality. In 2007, the Opera House was inscribed on the World Heritage List by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

Every year, the Australian icon welcomes more than 10.9 million visitors on-site and hosts more than 1,800 performances attended by more than 1.4 million people.
