Sergio Massa, the minister and standard bearer of Peronism, was the presidential candidate with the most votes on Sunday with approximately 36.7% of the votes against all odds, according to official results with almost all the tables counted.

But, having fewer votes than those necessary to be elected in the first round, Massa will have to face Javier Milei in the second round on November 19, an economist who burst into politics with an anti-system speech and reached almost 30% of the votes.

SOUNDBITE: Javier Milei, candidate for La Libertad Avanza (LLA)
"From not having a party, to being the first national force with Kirchenerism in just two years is a true historical achievement. From nothing we have gone on to have 40 national deputies and 8 senators. It is impressive what we have built in just 2 years I want to take this opportunity to greet Jorge Macri, who made a great election in the City of Buenos Aires and has a runoff with Kirchnerism ahead of him, just like the one we have. I also take this opportunity to congratulate Rogelio Frigerio, who they tell me would be the new governor of Entre Rios. I want you to be aware that today we are facing the most important election of the last 100 years, an election that will ask us if we want to continue with this model that Kirchnerism defends or if we want to embrace the ideas of freedom that They are what made Argentina great in the 19th century and that all countries that embrace the ideas of freedom progress, while all those that embrace populist ideas sink into misery. Today I come to end this process of aggression and attacks and I am willing to make a clean slate, shuffle and give it again with the aim of ending Kirchnerism. If all of us who want a change do not work together, they are going to keep this country, if all of us who want a change do not all work together, they are going to keep the city of Buenos Aires. We cannot allow Kirchnerism to continue destroying our lives. The choice before us is very clear: either we change or we sink. If by working together we can end the privileges of the political caste, let's make the liberal revolution. "It can be changed and there is a possible Argentina if that future is liberal, therefore let's go fight for the ideas of freedom!"
