Aerial footage shows a severely flooded village amid heavy rains in northeast Thailand.

The Ban Non Sawan village in Khon Kaen province was submerged in water when a nearby reservoir overflowed on October 22.

Authorities said floods up to 20 inches high swamped roads. Warning signs have been installed along highways as officials said it might take weeks for the water to recede.

Kan Thongsaen, chief of the Ubonrat District, said at least 247 people in 112 households were affected, with families in at least 13 homes evacuated to centres.

The official added that the flooding has started to subside, but drivers were still warned to avoid the flooded rural roads.

As of October 23, the Ubonrat Dam was holding 2,794 million cubic metres of water, local media reported.

Thailand and neighbouring countries in Southeast Asia are in their annual monsoon rainy season which sees soaring temperatures followed by powerful rain storms in the afternoon leading to widespread flash floods.

Bangkok and large parts of the north and northeast of the country have been swamped with flash floods from tropical thunderstorms.
