Northeye bought by The Home Office to turn into an immigration detention centre at a cost of £15.3 million from developers who had bought the site 13 months previously for £6.31 million giving the developers a £9 million profit. The Home Office intends to turn the former open prison (and before that it was living quarters for a nearby RAF station during the cold war) into temporary accommodation for up to 1,200 asylum seekers who are presently housed in hotels. About 400 hotels are currently being used to house record numbers of asylum seekers at a cost to the taxpayer of £8m a day. Northeye, Bexhill-On-Sea, East Sussex, UK
