CCTV footage shows how a basketball post collapsed twice - narrowly missing players in Thailand.

Footage shows a grabbing onto the hoop of the newly installed basketball hoop at a park in Lampang province on October 20 - only to cause the structure to topple over.

Following the mishap, officials ordered the posts to be weighed down with 100 kilogrammes of concrete.

However, the measure proved ineffective when another man playing on the court a day later climbed onto the metal bars to fix the damaged basketball ring.

He was about to reach over the hoop board, but crashed painfully on the ground with the falling backboard narrowly missing crushing his head. He walked away unhurt.

Angry residents have criticised the local government for both incidents, saying officials had cut corners at the cost of public safety. They said the basketball posts were a hazard because they were not firmly anchored to the ground.

Kitti Jivasantikarn, deputy governor of Lampang, said the basketball posts have been removed from the court for repairs and modifications.
