A wild monkey was spotted touring half of a city in just seven days and feasting fruits on stalls in northern China.

The video was filmed in the city of Xi'an in Shaanxi Province on October 20.

First spotted on October 20 in the Beicheng Road area of Baqiao district, the curious primate quickly became a local sensation. Just three days later, on October 23, it made an appearance at the Qujiang campus of Xi'an University of Technology.

However, the primate didn't stop there. Over the next two days, it was seen near the Jinhua North Road Fire Station, outside a fruit stall by the entrance of Xi'an University of Technology's Jinhua campus. Such monkey sightings in the middle of the bustling city are rare, to say the least, drawing crowds of gawking onlookers eager to snap a photo of the unexpected tourist.

Adding to the amusement, a fruit stall owner displayed a sense of humour and wit by standing aside and watching, eyes wide, as the monkey chose its preferred fruits.

On October 26, another resident reported a chance encounter with the monkey near Xingfu South Road in the Xincheng district.

In response to this intriguing escapade, representatives from the Xi'an Wildlife Protection and Management Station shared that they are still uncertain if this is a wild monkey or one that was raised in captivity. Its specific species remains unidentified.

"We are looking everywhere for it and have also contacted the rare animal protection department. However, as of now, we haven't managed to capture it," said an official.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
