STORYLINE:

Foreign experts attending a conference on international deep-sea science and technology cooperation in Sanya, south China's Hainan Province, lauded the developments that China has made in deep-sea technology and equipment. 

The 2023 Hainan Free Trade Port International Science and Technology Innovation Cooperation Forum and Deep-Sea Technology Innovation Conference, which concluded on Thursday, saw the participation of representatives from about 170 organizations and institutions worldwide.
   
Themed "Focusing on the Deep Sea for a Shared Future," it aims to serve as a platform for international in-depth exchanges and cooperation on deep-sea science and technology.

"It's particularly impressive to see the deep (-sea) manned submersibles that have been built in the past few years and that have come online. It's really impressive to have a full-ocean-depth manned submersible that can be used for scientific purposes. That's really valuable."

"Today, we saw many good examples from scientists in China. There is a lot of progress in deep-sea engineering, for example, the fossil fuels, the ability to drill at a very deep depth, but also the understanding of the biodiversity and the bioresources, and also the understanding of the issues related to mangroves, the issues related to seagrasses, tidal wetlands, biodiversity, which is so important here."
