SOUNDBITE (English): SWARAN SINGH, Professor at School of Int'l Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University
"If you look at China and India potentially playing a global transformative role, being the second and fifth largest economies of the world, they are ordained to transform the world, bringing more justice and equity into global governance.
China and India together constitute nearly 2.8 billion people. So even if they are focusing together on resolving their domestic problems, they are resolving a larger number of problems for global citizens which are Chinese and Indian. But more important is that if China and India come together in resolving problems, they would definitely be far more effective. China and India's economies have continued to grow. That means that creates an optimism in the population and creates an optimism in their political leadership, to think of contributing to the resolution of global problems.
So there's a whole spectrum of relationship that China and India share. Both are ancient civilizations, continuing ancient civilizations, and increasingly powerful nations on the global platform."
Xinhua News Agency correspondents reporting from New Delhi.
