Locals were baffled by an isolated rain shower that drenched only a part of a road in Thailand.

Footage shows the downpour falling on a section of the tarmac in Pattaya, Chonburi, while leaving the rest of the road dry on April 17.

A hyper-isolated rain shower is a very localized rain shower that is completely surrounded by dry air. It is so isolated that it can be difficult to detect on radar. Hyper-isolated rain showers are typically caused by a combination of atmospheric instability, a weak vertical wind shear and strong surface heating.
