STORYLINE:

Eleven employees from the Matiari-Lahore transmission project, a project under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), are receiving technical training in China.

The training is being held at State Grid of China Technology College (SGTC) in Tai'an, east China's Shandong Province from Oct. 16 to Nov. 17.

"I'm really happy to be here in China with my team for our training. So far, it has been a great experience for me to embrace Chinese culture, learn about their traditional values, and of course, learning technical knowledge from the best professionals at SGTC. I realized that China's power construction achievements are very impressive and that Pakistan can learn a lot from China's power construction."

Matiari-Lahore high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission project, is under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a flagship project of the China-proposed Belt and Road Initiative.

The project was officially put into commercial operation in September 2021.

With a cumulative transmission of 26.8 billion kWh, it guarantees the electricity use of 10 million households in Lahore and its surrounding areas.

"While applying advanced DC power transmission and transformation equipment to the Pakistan power grid, we have also trained a group of professional and technical personnel who can use the equipment. Up to now, Pakistani engineers have been able to independently complete 173 types of operation and maintenance work, and have become the main force of overseas convertor stations."

"After returning to Pakistan, I pledge to implement the knowledge that I have gained from training to my work and also train other Pakistani engineers for better and effective O&M (operation and maintenance) grid operation."
