SOUNDBITE (English): MAIMUNAH MOHD SHARIF, UN under-secretary-general and executive director of UN-Habitat
"This Shanghai Award is more inclusive, more integrated because it talks about global sustainable cities. We need to look at the cities, not at one particular project, and what I wish is that each of these cities, definitely they'll have a sustainable solution. Because maybe the challenges in city A maybe you can have the solution from city B. So I think this is the opportunity for the mayors and for the governments to share and also to learn and relearn, and think and rethink the way that we manage our city."
The Shanghai Award, jointly established by the UN-Habitat and the Shanghai government in 2022, is aimed at recognizing cities that offer integrated solutions for sustainable development.
