The shortage is due to scheduled shutdowns at two refineries, a seasonal consumption peak and higher demand from the field, said a joint statement from the major oil companies, which estimated a normalization of supply "in the coming days."

The Minister of Economy and Peronist presidential candidate, Sergio Massa, who had demanded the companies to speed up distribution, declared on Monday that the situation was tending to normalize.

"I want to say very clearly, there was a discussion in which the oil companies were proposing a 20 to 40 percent price increase, I will not allow the pockets of Argentines to suffer at a time when the international context, including this sad fact that we are pointing out today (war in the Middle East) has changed or has modified international prices (.... ) or they finish catching up with the supply process or they will not be able to export any more, because they have many advantages to export but first the Argentines (....) On Sunday after noon the fuel trucks that were not there started to appear, that is striking."
